Academic English differs considerably from everyday spoken
or ‘social’ English. It refers to expressing ideas in a clear, precise and
objective manner, using a formal tone, more advanced vocabulary, expression and
sentence structure, coupled with critical evaluation. This course prepares students for
undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a university environment. Students
will be tutored on how to develop Reading & Writing Skills, Sourcing
Materials, Summarizing
& Reformulation Techniques, Research Proposal Writing Skills, Vocabulary
Building Techniques, English Grammar for Academic Purposes, Academic
Presentation Techniques. Students will be encouraged to develop their own
subject-specific vocabulary, as well as distinctive style of writing.
